Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning – at The Pulse

At Diversitat Youth  we understand that people engaged in education have the best outcomes for their future. However not everyone stays engaged in school and some people need a program that is more personalised to their learning needs and points them back in the right direction of education and employment.

VCAL is a recognised senior secondary qualification. When you have successfully completed this course you may want to start an apprenticeship, find a job or complete VCAL or VCE.

We offer:

  • VCALFND001 Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (Foundation)
  • VCALINT001 Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (Intermediate)
  • VCALSEN001 Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (Senior)

Course Structure

VCAL provides an accredited program of studies at each level in the following four compulsory strands:

  • Literacy and numeracy: includes the study of English and Math at an appropriate level for the student, aiming to provide skills that enable a progression to work or further training
  • Work-related skills: develops skills, knowledge and behaviours that are values by all employers and includes work placement.
  • Industry-specific skills: develops skills and behaviours that are related to industry and which enable progression to further learning to the world of work. This normally encompasses a VET part-time program. Programs include hospitality, Community Services and digital media.
  • Personal development: aims to develop skills, knowledge and behavior that provide improved self-confidence, increased self-esteem and community development.

Requirements for successful completion of VCAL:

Students must successfully complete:

  • 10 Credits. A credit represents 100 nominal hours of accredited curriculum. In general one credit represents a single semester subject, or unit (e.g. a VCE/VET or VCAL unit)
  • At least one unit from each of the four required strands.
  • At each level this must include one Literacy and one Numeracy unit/credit.
  • Two VCAL units – selected from the Work Related Skills and/or Personal Development skills strand.

This training is delivered by Diversitat Training TOID: 5819.
This training is delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth Government funding to eligible individuals.

Different levels of Government subsidy are available – Diversitat Training can help you to determine if you are eligible for a Government subsidy of your training through Skills First. More information about Fees and Charges can be found in our Student Handbook which can be downloaded from Current Students page.

Am I eligible for a funded place?

You may be eligible for funding support from the State or Commonwealth Government under a range of training support and incentive programs.

The Victorian Government Skills First funding is making vocational education and training more accessible to students who do not hold a post-school qualification, or who want to gain a higher level qualification than they already hold.

The Skills First funding is an entitlement to a Victorian government subsidised place in recognised training that can be accessed at any time and it will continue to be available for training at successively higher levels.

If you are eligible for funding, the Victorian Government Skills First can contribute to the cost of your training.
