CHC43315 Certificate IV in Mental Health
(Release 2)
This qualification reflects the role of workers who provide self-directed recovery oriented support for people affected by mental illness and psychiatric disability. Work involves implementing community based programs and activities focusing on mental health, mental illness and psychiatric disability. Work is undertaken in a range of community contexts such as community based non-government organisations; home based outreach; centre-based programs; respite care; residential services, rehabilitation programs; clinical settings; or supporting people in employment. Work is carried out autonomously under the broad guidance of other practitioners and professionals.
After successfully achieving this qualification learners may choose to continue studies in the Community Services and Health Services industry.
Course Structure
The course includes a classroom component, off-campus study components and industry placement. Assessment is based on competency, which is the ability to demonstrate specific skills and will involve a combination of assessment methods. These assessments can include written assignments, discussion, interviews, workplace projects and practical demonstrations.
This qualification and the various delivery methods have been designed following consultations with industry, learners and other stakeholders.
You will be required to complete 120 hour placement of unpaid work in a workplace as agreed on with Diversitat.
Classroom Based Training will be primarily this is primarily carried out at the Diversitat Training Rooms located at The Pulse Market Street Geelong. This is a fully equipped training facility.

Foundation Skills Assessment
Although there are no entry requirements for the qualification, applicants will be assessed for suitability by using the Foundation Skills Assessment. This will help us to identify any potential barriers or help us determine whether you require extra support for your studies.
The Foundation Skills Assessment will focus on English language, literacy and numeracy skills as well as employability skills.
Selection Criteria
To gain entry into CHC43315 Certificate IV in Mental Health, applicants:
- Must demonstrate an ability to work effectively with people affected by mental health and/or alcohol and other drug issues and their families.
- May have previous experience, knowledge of and interest in mental health and/or alcohol and other drugs.
Must demonstrate sound communication and interpersonal skills and also organisational and presentation skills at the interview.
All successful applicants will be required to undertake a Police Records Check and Volunteer Working with Children Check to meet their workplace regulatory requirements.
